Sumitomo Life and LIMRA Collaborate on Agent Recruiting
Windsor, CT, April 11, 2005 — Sumitomo Life Insurance Company of Japan has collaborated with LIMRA International to develop customized systems for recruiting and developing new agents in the Japanese market.
Drawing on LIMRA's long experience as developer of the Career Profile insurance agent recruiting test, the two companies conducted research in Japan to identify the most important and unique characteristics of high-potential candidates. The result is a system customized to the Japanese market that assesses candidates' potential to sell more life insurance, retain customers, and remain with the company longer.
Sumitomo, headquartered in Tokyo, has a history of distribution innovation. At the end of World War II, Sumitomo successfully recruited widows to sell life insurance. By working with LIMRA to help recruit the best candidates in today's market, Sumitomo will be able to build a more profitable and professional sales force and meet changing market demands.
"Building our sales structure scientifically is one of our most important initiatives in years," said Shinich Yokoyama, president and CEO of Sumitomo Life. "Our partnership with LIMRA International will enhance the quality and sophistication of our sales force."
"I am honored to begin this important effort with Sumitomo," said Robert Kerzner, president and CEO of LIMRA International. "By applying proven principles of success to its recruiting and development process, Sumitomo is taking a lead role in improving agent professionalism, agent productivity, and the industry's image in Japan."
